Home Education Instructional Program

“Every child deserves a space that molds to their unique needs — not a rigid system that overwhelms them.” Our center eliminates fluorescent lighting, crowded hallways, and sensory overload — replacing them with small groups, self-paced instruction, and integrated therapeutic support, because above all, every child's emotional well-being comes first.

Important clarification for families

A home education instructional program (for scholarship purposes) is not the same as Florida's legal home education program under s. 1002.41. We provide courses, small-group instruction, and learning support that parents can include in their child's sequential home education plan.

Families using a district-registered home education program remain responsible for the statutory requirements: written notice of intent within 30 days, a learning portfolio, and the annual educational evaluation.

Always verify current rules with your district and the Step Up handbook for your scholarship year.

Collaborative Care

The Center & Your ABA Team

One of the cornerstones of our program is the seamless collaboration with your child's ABA team — their Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and BCBA supervisor — to generalize skills across every natural learning environment.

  • Learning structure & pacing

What your child's day looks like

A structured 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM program in small groups — built around your child's ability level, sensory needs, and therapeutic goals. Low staff-to-student ratios. All under one roof.

Core Academics

Tailored instruction in Reading and Mathematics based on each child's specific ability level — not grade-based assumptions. We measure progress by mastery, not completion, so every learner builds genuine confidence at their own pace.

Daily Living Skills (ADLs)

Dedicated time for functional skills that build real independence: organization, self-care routines, kitchen safety, and proper use of table utensils as part of daily practice.

Sensory-Friendly Electives

Music and Art are not extras — they are integrated as creative breaks specifically designed to help children regulate their sensory systems between academic tasks.

Clinical Blocks

Dedicated windows within the school day for Speech Therapy (ST) and Occupational Therapy (OT) sessions, so clinical goals are reinforced right where learning happens.

Shared Adventure

Social Growth Through Classic Play

We create purposeful spaces where children discover how to interact, collaborate, and make new friends — through classic games under the guidance of our staff and RBTs.

Health, Safety & Nutrition

A safe, sensory-aware environment for every child.

Lunchbox Policy

Parents provide a daily lunchbox with familiar foods their child already accepts. We maintain a strict no-pressure environment around eating — no child is required to try new foods.

Safety Standards

All grapes, cherries, and hot dogs must be sliced lengthwise before arrival; raw carrots must be shredded or finely grated. Popcorn, hard candies, and chocolates containing nuts are not permitted in our space.

Utensil Mastery

Proper use of table utensils is practiced as part of our daily ADL curriculum — building independence one meal at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions parents ask us most during intake.

Is this a private school?

No. We are a home education instructional program — a category Step Up For Students specifically distinguishes from private, charter, virtual, and public schools. We provide courses, small-group instruction, and learning support that parents include in their child's home education plan. The parent remains the directing authority.

My child had a very hard time in a traditional school setting. How is this different?

Our program eliminates the main triggers that make traditional school environments difficult for neurodiverse children — fluorescent lighting, crowded hallways, rigid schedules, and large class sizes. We use small groups, self-paced instruction, low staff-to-student ratios, and sensory-friendly spaces. Your child's emotional well-being is the first priority, not compliance with a one-size-fits-all system.

Does my child need a FES-UA scholarship to enroll?

Yes. This program is currently available exclusively for FES-UA scholarship families through the Step Up EMA Marketplace. If your child does not yet have a scholarship, visit our Scholarships page for guidance on how to apply.

Do I still need to register with my school district?

Yes, if your family is using a district-registered home education program under Florida Statute s. 1002.41. That law requires a written notice of intent within 30 days, a learning portfolio, and an annual educational evaluation. These responsibilities stay with you as the parent — our role is to provide the instructional services you include in your child's program.

What hours does the program run, and how many days per week?

The program runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at our Hialeah Gardens location. All instruction happens in person — per Step Up guidance, home education instructional programs must operate at a physical location and cannot be delivered online.

Can my child receive speech therapy or OT during the school day?

Yes. The schedule includes dedicated clinical blocks for Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy within the program day. Your child does not have to leave and return for separate appointments — therapy happens in the same environment where learning takes place, which is where skills generalize best.

How do you handle a child who struggles behaviorally or emotionally during the day?

We collaborate directly with your child's ABA team — their RBT and BCBA — who can be present throughout the school day to provide behavioral support, reinforce the plan of care, and generalize skills across academic and social contexts. Behavioral challenges are not a reason for exclusion — they are part of what we are equipped to support.

Ready to visit our learning space?

Schedule a tour and intake call. We'll meet your child, understand their goals, and map out a weekly schedule that fits your family — building the student skills they'll carry through every transition ahead.
